Composed of 52% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot, the 2015 Alter Ego de Palmer has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and gorgeous nose of ripe plums, cassis and crushed cherries with touches of incense, lavender and chocolate box. Medium-bodied, very finely crafted and vivacious in the mouth, it finishes with great elegance and finesse.

This is a beautifully perfumed wine. It has ripe black fruits that shoot through the richness. It has a velvet texture, rounded and already smooth. There is just a shot of tannin and the hint of wood at the end.

Warm and inviting, with delightfully ripe plum and cassis notes that are lined with subtle lilac, fresh earth and singed sandal wood details before a wave of tobacco and humus comes in on the finish. Approachable, but should develop with time. Best from 2019 through 2029.

Rocks, stones, flowers, wet earth and inky, dark cherry, plum and even darker chocolate notes are all over the place. From the nose to the palate, you find the same expressions and complexities. The wine is richly textured, sensuous, silky and sweet. There is length and purity, This is better than any vintage of Palmer from the 70's, most of the 80's and the 90's! This is the best vintage of Alter Ego ever produced.

Alter Ego de Palmer is the second wine of Château Palmer, known as one of the two best Margaux with Château Margaux. A philosophy of perfection seeking on a domain that looks at the river and whose terroir is exceptional.


None of the staff's actions in the vineyard or in the cellars are harmless. All are guided by the spirit because the character comes from the soil, the personality of the climatic conditions but the excellence remains the fact of the man. In this wine, vintage after vintage, Château Palmer's vision of what must be an exceptional vintage. Convinced that it is born from the mysterious terroir / history / memory trilogy, the domain devotes its energy to this cause.

Distinction, commitment and commitment are the key words that guide the choices for Château Palmer, from the vineyard to the table where the wine is served.

The vineyard looks at the river

55 hectares of gravel overlooking the river, spread around the castle, in the heart of the Margaux appellation A great wine is born on a great terroir, subtle alchemy between the soil, the microclimate, the grape varieties and the expression that is given by the man. This association of terroir and man is the essence of the Grand Cru concept at Palmer. The magnificent vineyard covers 55 hectares spread over the rolling hills of the town of Cantenac. Most of the plots are concentrated on a plateau of lean gravel from the Güntz era, located at the top of the rumps of the Margaux appellation. The Palmer plateau is located on the first terraces of gravel bordering the Gironde. This is why Bordeaux is told that large terroirs "look" at the river.

The estate, in its work, does everything for the vine to explore this gravelly soil as much as possible. How? By maintaining a very high planting density of ~ 10,000 feet per hectare and by regularly plowing the soil, in order to increase competition between the feet and to promote deep rooting.

Modern cellars ... and even more

Functional and architectural choices combine harmoniously in what is the beating heart of the property during the grape harvest and winemaking. The vat is first and foremost a place of work. That of Château Palmer harmoniously combines functional and architectural choices. Entirely redesigned in 1995, it brings together 42 thermo-regulated stainless steel vats. Their number, their size and their frustoconical shape allow a vinification of precision. Grape variety, plot by plot and even batch by batch, the grapes join the vats to deliver their juice.

The rigorous and methodical organization, the sense of the detail and the respect of strict rules of hygiene are the principles of a successful work, so that the wine is born in the best possible conditions.

Work in the cellars

The setting in barrels of new oak is part of the classic process of elaboration of the grands crus of Bordeaux.Château Palmer strives to adapt this practice to the idea of ​​wines.

His philosophy of breeding is in fact a true conception of education: measurement, attention to the needs of each vintage, constant monitoring of the evolution of the wine during his stay in the cellars.

The woody must function as a flavor enhancer. The proportion of new barrels does not exceed 50 to 60% for Château Palmer and 25 to 40% for Alter Ego.

A wonder we had the chance to taste a few weeks ago ... and the result is a great surprise. A structure worthy of a Classified Growth with the elegance characteristic of Grands Vins de Margaux.

The vineyard

This Red wine (Second Wine) from Margaux is made with a vineyard that has an area of 55 hectares by Château Palmer. The average age of the vines is 20 years. The harvest for this wine are 100% hand harvested.

Into the cellars

This wine has remained 17 months in Oak barrels. For this wine, the estate has made the choice to incorporate 40% of new barrels.


The AOC Margaux extends to the south of the Médoc over 1,490 ha and produces an average of 62,500 hl of red wines per year.
The appellation selects the best soils and has some of the most beautiful bass ridges in all of Bordeaux. It is one of the most prestigious appellations in the Médoc and also one of the largest. Margaux includes five municipalities: Arsac, Cantenac, Labarde, Margaux and Soussans.
