Saint-Julien

The AOC Saint-Julien (968 hectares) was formalized in 1936 Located between Pauillac and Margaux both geographically and in style, this is one of the smallest of the Médoc appellation but more homogeneous quality.

21 active producers including 11 Classified Growths (from 2nd to 4th). The appellation covers 4.8 kilometers long and 3.2 kilometers wide and offers wine whose tannins have an unrivaled finesse. What characterizes Saint-Julien is the terroir and microclimate. The soil is a subtle mix between inputs stony alluvium of the Garonne and Dordogne those. Contributions therefore the Pyrenees and the Massif Central. Be aware that this agglomeration of broken rocks slowly and then spread over the millennia is an exceptional case.

The range of wines of Saint-Julien begins quite high due to the major presence of the Grands Crus, but there is always the second wines and small qualitative properties such as Château du Glana, Château La Bridane, or the Château Moulin Rose. There is no cooperative winery in St. Julien, and these exceptional wines offer however a very high average level that does not disappoint.
