It has a surprisingly high-toned and opulent bouquet, with kirsch and orange sorbet infusing the cassis and raspberry fruit. The palate is sweet and generous in style, harmonious in the mouth, with the structure only becoming apparent as it wends its way to the finish. Perhaps it just cuts away a little swiftly, but otherwise this remains a very well-crafted and highly enjoyable Pessac-Léognan.

There is a beautiful straight line of crispness in this wine. It cuts right through the wood and ripe yellow fruits to leave a wine with great clarity.

Offers enticing cassis, raspberry and cherry paste flavors, showing flashes of mulling spice, sweet tobacco and warm earth. The plush structure gives this a suave and accessible feel through the finish, with a perfumed hint to boot. This should be very charming with short-term cellaring. Best from 2019 through 2027. 15,000 cases made.

Belle robe sombre.

Medium bodied, energetic, soft, earthy expression, that already shows an elegant, easy to drink charm. The finish delivers ripe, sweet, red berries and tobacco. This will be a pleasure to well early in life, yet it can be aged for more complexity.

Description

The Château Carbonnieux red is a great classic of the Bordeaux region for centuries. Highly qualitative, it is the suave response of a fine blend of grape varieties from this region. At the same time modern and traditional, the vinification of the red wines is conducted with a slow and sweet extraction in order to preserve their roundness and the mineral typicity of their soil. The tannins are balanced and silky in harmony with the red fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry, cherry ...) revealing toasted notes conferred by aging in French oak barrels of high quality. Only the best tasted batches will enter the final composition of Château Carbonnieux red.

Terroir

The terroir of Château Carbonnieux is remarkable for its morphology and the diversity of its soils. A study of the soil resistivity supplemented by localized soil tests confirmed this observation. Thus, a new geological map of the whole area has been established with precision. The variable constitution of the Carbonnieux soils creates multiple plots of land with a rich and complex personality.

Carbonnieux today

After wiping two wars, Bordeaux viticulture is at the bottom of the wave. The winter of 1956 was marked by a terrible frost and that same year, upon his acquisition, Marc Perrin began to restore the castle and its vineyard. First of all, he embarked on a large replanting campaign which initially involved the 45 hectare vineyard estate in 1970, then 70 hectares in 1980 for nearly 95 today. Antony, his son builds a new winery in 1990 and modernizes the winery to adapt to new winemaking methods. He continues the restoration of the castle and vineyard, he also does not hesitate to invest in the fame of Carbonnieux and Bordeaux wines around the world. He was president of the Union of Grands Crus of Bordeaux, president of the classified Crus of Graves but also one of the promoters of the Pessac-Léognan Appellation which was born in 1987. It also acquires new properties in the appellation: Châteaux Sartre and Bois Martin who belong today to his sister. Over the years, he passed on this family heritage and his know-how to his children, Eric, Christine and Philibert Perrin. They are the ones who today took over the torch of a domain once again at its peak.

Pessac-Léognan

The AOC Pessac-Léognan is a fairly recent appellation since it dates from 1987. However, it has a very old terroir dating from the Middle Ages. Located on the southern and south-western edges of Bordeaux, the appellation includes all of the Grands Crus Classés des Graves, including the legendary Château Haut-Brion. It produces many red wines and some dry white wines (265 ha).
Composed of gravel, gravel, rolled pebbles, sands and clays, the soil allows red grape varieties (cabernet-sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc, petit verdot, malbec) and white grape varieties (sauvignon and semillon) have a typical expression. It is this combination that gives its peculiar style to Pessac-Léognan wines.
