The Doisy Daëne 2018 Blanc Sec is a little closed and still a bit cloudy at this nascent stage. It gives lovely lemon tart and grapefruit scents with hints of lime leaves and chalk dust. Medium-bodied, tightly wound, refreshing and citrusy, it has a nice, long mineral-laced finish.

Yellow apple, fennel and key lime notes mingle in this tasty white, with a rapier finish. Very steely.

The Château Doisy-Daëne, Second Classified Growth in 1855, located in Barsac in the Sauternes appellation, has been in the Dubourdieu family since 1924. For more than eighty years, three generations of winegrowers have worked from father to son to develop great sweet wines: Georges (1924-1948), Pierre (1949-1999) and Denis since 2000. Mostly reconstituted in the 50s and 60s, the vineyard of Doisy-Daëne is over 40 years old. Its surface is currently 18.2 ha. Established at 7,000 vines per hectare, it combines Sémillon (86%) and Sauvignon (14%). Viticulture.Exclusively maintained by traditional plowing, the soil of the vineyard receives no herbicide. Organic manures are based on vegetable composts. Ebourgeonnages, trellings, stripping are done by hand with meticulous care. Thus "grown like a garden", in an orderly and preserved nature, the vines ripen early concentrated grapes, tasty, possessing the sweetness and aromatic radiance of the fresh fruit that is found in these wines.

White vineyard

On the terroir of Barsac, Doisy-Daëne produces both a great Sauternes wine and a racy and very original dry white Bordeaux, the Château Doisy-Daëne's Grand Vin Sec. A great dry white wine to discover, a beautiful realization of the "pope of white wines of Bordeaux", Denis Dubourdieu, 2015 is unfortunately following his death, the last and one of the best vintages of Denis Dubourdieu on his fields.

Winemaking & Elevage

As soon as they are mature, a few bunches are taken from each vine in all the parcels of Sauvignon. After a possible phase of pellicular maceration, the slow extraction of the juices is carried out protected from oxidation. The musts of gout are rigorously separated from the musts of press and their clarification is done by natural sedimentation. The fermentation takes place in barrels renewed by fifth. The breeding lasts 8 months on lees regularly resuspended.

Doisy-Daëne's Grand Vin Sec is one of the best dry white wines of Bordeaux. Little brother of the Doisy-Daëne Barsac, it expresses in a different register all the distinction and finesse of this exceptional terroir. With a singular aromatic power, grapefruit and white peach aromas, it develops mineral notes and flavors of pear and spices on the palate. At the same time delicious young and of a big potential of guard (5 to 10 years).

The Bordeaux appellation is one of the largest appellations in Bordeaux. You will find there the heart of the entry-level on the Bordeaux, nevertheless, there are also in the Bordeaux appellation fantastic dry white wines which are not entitled to the A.O.C on which they are produced. Indeed, A.O.C such as Margaux, Saint-Julien, Pauillac are only eligible for red wines, just as Sauternes can only be sweet. When a domain produces a dry white wine in these areas, it receives the designation of Bordeaux appellation. Bordeaux is therefore both the appellation of the entry-level, but not only since there are some exceptional wines.
