Pretty Chartreuse nestled in the heart of a magnificent park of 3 hectares, in the shadow of the bell tower of the Romanesque church, the Château Fourcas Hosten is located in the heart of Listrac, peaceful village that gives its name to the appellation. In 1810, Mr. Hosten sold the vineyard, inherited from his father, a lawyer in Bordeaux, to the family of Saint Affrique who, by creating the Château Fourcas Hosten, gave it an international reputation. Since September 2006 Château Fourcas Hosten is owned by Renaud and Laurent Momméja. Recognized as one of the great bourgeois crus of the Medoc peninsula, Château Fourcas-Hosten produces a wine whose balance of assembly has always been hailed as a success.
As part of a dynamic progression, the Momméja family and their team have taken concrete steps to improve the existing structure, buildings and 47 hectares of vineyards. In 2008, important works are undertaken within the domain and concern the renovation of the three cellars, the renovation of the chartreuse, and a restoration work "of the vine.
Renaud and Laurent Momméja, surrounded by their team, devote a lot of energy, application and financial means by passion for this land.
Member of the Bordeaux Grands Crus Union, Renaud and Laurent Momméja share their passion for wine every day with everyone they meet in France and around the world. In 2013, the Château Fourcas Hosten was rewarded for its efforts by two labels: the label "Vineyards and Chais in Bordeaux" and the label "Best Of Wine Tourism 2014".
The Listrac-Médoc appellation is located north-west of the Gironde; christened "the roof of the Médoc", this terroir is 43 meters high and the typicity of its soils and grape varieties have made it an essential appellation as the wines produced there are of high quality. Indeed, thanks to this temperate climate, bathed in sun and wind, the grapes arrive each year at an optimal maturity and are protected from late frosts. The terroir of Château Fourcas Hosten consists of 47 hectares of fully drained vines, benefiting from a unique microclimate, between the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic Ocean, conducive to the development of great wines. This vineyard, with an average age of twenty-five, is 60% gravely soil at a place called Le Fourcas (locality that gives its name to the Château) and 40% on clay soil. limestone in Listrac-Médoc, facing the Castle. This great variety of soils and grape varieties makes it possible to obtain a wine whose remarkable balance makes it one of the leaders of the Listrac-Médoc appellation. The vines are in perfect adequacy with the soils: Cabernets on the Pyrenean Graves and Black Merlot on the clay-limestone; the planting density is 8,333 vines / ha. Château Fourcas Hosten is one of the forerunners of the application of the so-called "reasoned" struggle for the protection of the vineyard and therefore of the environment. Stripping, thinning, and parcel grass have become unavoidable practices to obtain a healthy and mature harvest, with controlled yield.
It is from the eighteenth century that the reputation of the Grand Cru Médoc exceeds the borders and their consumption meets a real boom on all continents. Aware of the richness of their terroir, the Bordeaux owners are applying to perfect the techniques of maintenance of their vineyard, their reconstitution, the improvement of soils and a new design of the cellars. Renaud and Laurent Momméja, since the acquisition of Château Fourcas Hosten in 2006, are part of this dynamic of development to enable the terroir and men who work, to produce exceptional wines, for fans around the world . Harvesting takes place every year on the 47 hectares of vineyards traditionally, 75% by hand by trained harvesters, 25% mechanically. Before the beginning of the harvest, a harvest plan is established, varietal grape variety, and in a fragmented manner. Each bunch of grapes picked at maturity is carefully sorted before being sent to the vat room. The organization of this plot monitoring is found through the different stages of winemaking by fermentations appropriate to each quality of grapes. In a vat reorganized in 2001, then completely renovated in 2010, each vat, thermoregulated, allows to extract very precisely all the desired qualitative elements. Then during 12 months, follows the aging in barrels (renewed by third each year) necessary to the full expression of the quality of the wines of the Château Fourcas Hosten. The Cedars of Hosten, second wine of the property, is raised by 10% in barrels, 90% in vats. A team of professionals focuses its efforts to ensure that the wines reach a constant quality every year and provide a real pleasure to their tasters. The national and international professional press emphasizes the rigor of the elaboration of these wines and the exception of their tasting. The entire harvest is bottled at the château and the annual production for the first wine, Château Fourcas Hosten amounts to 200,000 bottles. The "Cedars of Hosten", meanwhile generates 60,000 bottles that will be distributed in France and internationally. Renaud and Laurent Momméja have chosen to entrust all of their annual production to merchants in the Bordeaux market place so that their wines are sold and distributed throughout the world.
