The 2018 Lanessan is deep garnet-purple colored with black cherries, cassis, mulberries and baked plums on the nose with herbs, earth and tea hints. Medium to full-bodied, it is a little chewy and herbal with the oak poking through on the finish.
points on 100
Shows tightness and focus with blackcurrant and olive character on the nose and palate. Medium body, fine tannins and a flavorful finish.
points on 100
With a nice depth of color, you find smoke, grilled meat, spice, currant and tobacco notes on the nose before moving to all the round, rich, supple textured red fruits and ripe, chewy tannins. Give it 5-7 years in the bottle before pulling a cork and you will have a much better wine.

The Lanessan vineyard belongs to the Bouteiller family since the 18thcentury. Eight generations have come and gone at the head of the castle. At the moment, the Bouteiller family has entrusted the management of the Château to a women named Paz Espejo, who has a strong desire to breathe new life into the property.

A remarkable expertise

Since the beginning of 2012, the estate has been implementing a new grape selection table, incorporating an ultramodern optical sorting system. During the year 2015, the property used the advice of Hubert de Boüard, the owner of the Château Angélus, alongside Paz Espejo and Eric Boissenot, a historical oenologist of this estate. He brought his knowledge and technical expertise to the vineyard.

The vineyard

This Red wine (Non Classified) from Haut-Médoc is made with a vineyard that has an area of 32 hectares by Château Lanessan. The average age of the vines is 30 years. The harvest for this wine are 100% hand harvested.

Into the cellars

This wine has remained 12 months in Oak barrels. For this wine, the estate has made the choice to incorporate 33% of new barrels.

The clearing and enhancement of the Médoc only dates from the 16th and 17th centuries. The wines of this region are quickly known and their fame crosses borders. The appellation is recognized by the decree of November 14, 1936, updated in December 2011.
The soils are mainly composed of gravels, that is to say a mixture of gravels and sands, with nuances given the extent of the appellation area and the presence of a clay-limestone subsoil outcropping very marginally.
