The Clos Floridene 2018 Blanc gives tropical scents of green guava, mango and pineapple with touches of honeysuckle and fresh ginger. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers fantastic freshness and mineral-tinged citrus layers, finishing long and clean.

Description

Clos Floridène, is today a vineyard of 42 ha, in the appellation Graves; Mostly located on the limestone plateau of Pujols sur Ciron, near Barsac, it also has some plots on the stony terraces of Illats.


An excellent terroir

From a geological point of view, a part of the soil of Pujols sur Ciron where most of the vineyard is located is very similar to the soil of Barsac. A thin layer of clayey sand rich in iron oxide, "the red sands of the Barsacais", covers the calcareous subsoil. This rocky slab limits the rooting depth of the vine to about 50 cm. During the summer, the finely porous limestone restores to the vine the water it soaked during the winter, avoiding excessive water stress. A small part of the vineyard (3.1 hectares), in the commune of Illats, occupies a clay-gravel rump.


Winemaking

The picking is carried out manually in general in one time and if it is necessary by 2 successive sorts of golden grapes, reached their aromatic optimum. After a possible phase of pellicular maceration, the slow extraction of the juices is carried out protected from oxidation. The musts of gout are rigorously separated from the musts of press and their clarification is done by natural sedimentation. The fermentation takes place in barrels renewed quarter. The breeding lasts 8 months on lees regularly resuspended.  


The tasting 

Clos Floridène Blanc has the particular character of white wines from the great limestone soils: green gold color, intense aroma with fruity notes of white peach, lemon, grapefruit, mineral nuances, roasted, toasted. Powerful and fresh flavors of the fruit in all its brilliance, density and structure of a great white wine. It can be kept for at least 10 years.

This White wine (Non Classified) from Graves is made with a vineyard that has an area of 22.7 hectares by Clos Floridène. The average age of the vines is 40 years. The harvest for this wine are 100% hand harvested.

Into the cellars

This wine has remained 8 months in Oak barrels. For this wine, the estate has made the choice to incorporate 20% of new barrels.

Graves

The Graves owe their name to their poor soil covered with more or less large gravel which, when evening comes, restores the heat of the sun stored during the day to the vineyard. From Bordeaux to Langon, the Graves extend over a wide strip of land 55 km by 10 km wide, bordered to the west and south by the pine forest which protects them from severe weather, to the east by the Garonne which plays a role of thermal regulator.
The originality of this region, which covers 4,650 hectares (of which 3,450 are planted with vines), is that it produces red wines with a shimmering ruby ​​color (the red gravel), very aromatic dry white wines (the serious whites), and fluffy whites (the upper-bass).
